Cosplay Helmet Sizing: Measure Your Head and the Opening
A helmet must fit around your head and let your head pass through its opening. Head circumference alone cannot confirm both. Before ordering a raw 3D printed helmet, compare the internal space, entry opening, and planned padding.
Which measurements should I send?
- Head circumference around the widest part, keeping the tape level.
- Maximum head width, measured without compressing your head.
- Width across your ears, since the entry opening must accommodate them.
- Front-to-back head length.
Include units and tell us whether you will wear glasses, a wig, or a liner. If the measurement method is unclear, contact us before ordering so we can agree on how to take it.
Why can the bottom opening be the problem?
A sculpt can have enough space inside while its neck opening is too narrow for entry. The opening's width and front-to-back clearance need checking separately. Some designs use removable sections or split construction, but that feature is model-specific and should never be assumed.
Does a 24.5-inch fit statement apply to every helmet?
No. Use the dimensions and sizing notes on the exact listing. A stated circumference is a starting point, not a guarantee for every head shape, entry opening, hairstyle, or padding choice.
Can I simply order a larger percentage?
Uniform scaling changes every dimension together. It can improve one clearance while making another part too large. The model geometry, internal measurements, opening, and assembly method should be reviewed before choosing a percentage. Contact us to discuss feasibility and pricing before production.
How much room should I leave for padding?
Tell us the thickness and placement you intend to use. There is no single padding allowance that suits every design or wearer. Padding occupies interior space and can change where your eyes sit relative to the visor.
What arrives and when?
Border3D helmets are physical raw prints that may require assembly, finishing, padding, and other components. Check the listing for visor and hardware inclusion. Helmet production is 2–4 weeks before shipping; transit and your finishing time are additional. Costume helmets do not provide protective performance.
